This article describes one or more prototypes, which may include information that has already leaked. Although a limited number of screenshots and general information is allowed, linking to ROMs/source code is not allowed, nor is coverage of prototypes of upcoming games. |
NetCard (NC卡) is a cancelled peripheral associated with the company iQue. It was planned for at least the iQue DS in the second slot, and was developed by Shénqú (a division of iQue). It is also linked with the iQue Game Boy Advance; allowing the user to play Game Boy Advance-based games.
Announcement
The NetCard was announced in 2004, but was never released. It was intended to both add online gameplay to Nintendo's existing franchises, such as the Pokémon series, Mario Kart series and Wars series.
Additionally, three games in a chess and card series were announced for the card, but were unreleased with it; Zhēng Shàngyóu, Tuōlājī Dàzhàn and Zhōngguó Xiàngqí. These would be playable online using the iQue DS.[1]
Leak
On July 24, 2020, a development repository for it was leaked.[2]
Revealed in the leak were iQue documents for an untitled online Pokémon project based on Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen Versions, which may have used the NetCard.[3] The directory also included files for a tool called the iQue management software (管理软件). A Game Boy Advance version of the game was planned for July/August 2005, as was a version featuring a "PC screen" for the display and a Game Boy Advance for control for February-March 2006, which was intended to have been expanded with the ability to capture Pokémon online in July-August 2006.[citation needed]
