The Kirby (Japanese: 星のカービィ Hoshi no Kirby, literally Kirby of the Stars) series of games is one of the few long running Nintendo game series, debuting on the Game Boy and making its home console debut on the Nintendo Entertainment System. Kirby games are generally developed by HAL Laboratory, but are always published by Nintendo exclusively for their home console and portable gaming systems. The hero and titular character, Kirby, is consistently a round pink being. No specific explanation has been given for what Kirby actually is meant to be. His trademark power is the ability to inhale and copy the element, weapon, fighting style, or other attribute of his foes.
The Kirby franchise also includes an animated 100 episode series, Kirby: Right Back at Ya!, and a recent retelling of some game plots in manga form. Some of the games are remakes of previous titles with enhancements such as improved graphics, bonus abilities, or other additional content.
