VB Mario Land (also referred to as Mario Adventure[1] and Mario Clash[2]) is a cancelled 2D platforming game in the Super Mario series developed for the Virtual Boy. The game was initially revealed with a single-level demo at the Winter Consumer Electronics Show 1995, but was never released.
Despite this game not releasing, the 3D version of Mario Bros. planned to be included in this game was later retooled and released as a full Virtual Boy game under the name "Mario Clash".[3]
Gameplay
VB Mario Land would have played similarly to previous 2D Mario platformers, though with 3D elements, such as Mario being able to switch between the foreground and background by crossing bridges at various points. In addition, at certain points, the player would enter ares in which Mario is controlled in a top-down view, similar to early The Legend of Zelda games.
