Hotel Mario is a video game released for the Philips CD-i in 1994. Although it uses characters from the Super Mario series, Nintendo was not directly involved in the development of the game. The game was created by an outside team after a failed deal between Nintendo and Phillips to create a CD-based add-on for the SNES; as part of the deal, Phillips were given the rights to create games based upon five of Nintendo's characters for the console.
Blurb
Bowser has taken over the Mushroom Kingdom,—he's captured Princess Toadstool and is holding her in one of the seven hotels in the kingdom. Only you and Mario can free the Princess but you'll have to battle Koopas, Parabombs, Banzai Bill, Spiney, Monty, Pat the Bat and other nefarious nasties!
Story
Mario and Luigi travel to the Mushroom Kingdom to attend a picnic Princess Peach invited them to, but instead they find a letter from Bowser. The letter tells them that Bowser and his seven Koopalings have taken over the Mushroom Kingdom and kidnapped Peach, who is being kept as a "permanent guest" at one of the seven hotels created by the Koopalings. In the end, Mario and Luigi rescue the princess after going through all the hotels.
Gameplay
The player as Mario must travel through each of the seven Koopa hotels, clearing each stage by closing all of the doors on-screen within the time limit. Enemies come out of the doors, and may also reopen closed doors. Multiplayer is also available, in which the second player plays as Luigi.
