The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is a 3D adventure game released for the Nintendo 64 in 1998. The first 3D The Legend of Zelda game, it tells the story of a hero named Link, and his quest to save Hyrule from the Gerudo King, Ganondorf. The game was originally developed for the Nintendo 64DD, but was redeveloped to be on a regular cartridge due to the declining sales of the 64DD. Ocarina of Time is notable for its reception among both critics and fans, commonly being named as one of the best games of all time ever since its release. It is also the best-selling game in the series so far, selling over 7.6 million copies worldwide in its lifetime.[1]
Canonically, Ocarina of Time was originally said to take place before the rest of the series, before The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, though after its release came The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, all of which claim to be follow-ups to this game. With The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia, it was revealed that Ocarina of Time takes place before A Link to the Past, Majora's Mask, and The Wind Waker, the outcome of this game being split into three branches.
In 2002, this game was re-released for the Nintendo GameCube alongside The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Master Quest, a revised version of the game featuring new, more difficult dungeons. The game was also re-released for the GameCube as part of The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition. This game was also re-released on the Wii Virtual Console service in February 2007, and later for Virtual Console on Wii U in February 2015. Finally, in 2011, a remake of this game was released for Nintendo 3DS, titled The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D.

Story
The game begins with Link, a boy living in Kokiri Forest who doesn't have a fairy companion who dreams about a girl being chased away by an evil-looking man. The Great Deku Tree sends the fairy Navi to test the boy, and after Link gets a sword and shield he must try and save the Deku Tree from death. Although he cannot, the Deku Tree gives Link the Kokiri Emerald and tells him to go to Princess Zelda. At Hyrule Castle, Link sneaks in and meets with the princess, who tells him about the evil intentions of Ganondorf and tasks him with finding the other Spiritual Stones.
After finding the stones, Zelda is chased out of Hyrule Castle by Ganondorf, Zelda tossing the Ocarina of Time over to Link. Using the stones and the ocarina, Link can open the door in the Temple of Time to find the Master Sword. After pulling it, Link is taken seven years into the future, after Ganondorf has entered the Sacred Realm, obtained the power of the Triforce of Power, and conquered Hyrule. Now, Link must awaken the six sages and obtain their power to defeat Ganondorf once and for all.
